Edmonton, Alberta (December 4, 2015)—The Stream-Flo Group of Companies, Stream-Flo Industries Ltd. and Master Flo Valve Inc., is pleased to announce that this year it will donate to 12 Canadian and 6 U.S. food banks in the communities in which it operates in place of giving away door prizes at its employee Christmas parties. In total, the company will donate $26,000.00 to the food banks.

Food bank use is increasing dramatically in communities hit by the downturn in the oil and gas industry. In Alberta, food bank use increased by 23.4% between March 2014 and March 2015, compared to a rise of 1.3% for all of Canada, according to a November 17 report by Food Banks Canada. The report attributes the increase in Alberta to rising unemployment caused by the drop in oil prices over the last year-and-a-half.

“With the industry down-turn, local charities are struggling to keep up with the demand for their services. Many of our neighbours in those communities are having trouble just making ends meet,” says Mark McNeill, President of the Stream-Flo Group of Companies. “One of our Guiding Principles is that the communities in which we work will benefit from our presence. Supporting communities such as Sylvan Lake, which have supported us, is important to all of us at Stream-Flo and Master Flo.”

In addition to donating to local food banks, the Stream-Flo Group of Companies supports local organizations in the communities in which it operates throughout the year, as well as organizations that serve the regions in which those communities are located. This includes donating $3 for every dollar raised by employees to purchase $258,730.00 worth of medical equipment for the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton in 2014, and donating $56,394.00 to the PTSD Foundation of America’s Camp Hope in Houston in 2015. Also this year, Stream-Flo organized a golf tournament in Midland, Texas in support of the UMC Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center. Since Stream-Flo took over organizing the tournament in 2013, it has raised $60,000 for the burn center.
