Edmonton, Alberta (December 23, 2016)—The Stream-Flo Group of Companies—Stream-Flo Industries Ltd. and Master Flo Valve Inc.—is pleased to announce that it has again donated to food banks in the communities in which it operates instead of giving away door prizes at its employee Christmas parties. In total, the company donated $20,000.00 to 11 Canadian and 6 U.S. food banks.
This is the second year in a row that the Stream-Flo Group of Companies has donated to food banks in lieu of door prizes. As the oil and gas industry downturn stretches into 2017, unemployment rates have remained high in oil and gas communities, and the food banks in those communities continue to experience high demand for their services.
“There are families in our communities who are struggling to make ends meet, and the need to help them is as strong as ever,” says Doug McNeill, Chief Strategic Officer of the Stream-Flo Group of Companies. “The people turning to food banks to feed themselves and their families are the neighbors of our employees and customers. One of our Guiding Principles is that the communities in which we work will benefit from our presence, and this is one way that we can directly benefit them, particularly at this time of year.”
Community support is deeply ingrained in the culture at the Stream-Flo Group of Companies, and is included in its Guiding Principles. In June 2016, employees of the Stream-Flo Group of Companies donated a total of $18,827.00 to support the Fort McMurray wildfire recovery effort. Together with matching funds from the McNeill family, which owns the Stream-Flo Group of Companies, the total amount donated to the Wood Buffalo Food Bank in Fort McMurray and the American Red Cross Fort McMurray Canada Disaster Relief fund was $37,854.00.
In addition, the company and employees support a wide range of local organizations in the communities in which it operates. In 2015, the company donated $56,394.00 to the PTSD Foundation of America’s Camp Hope in Houston. In 2014, the company donated $3 for every dollar raised by employees to purchase a total of $258,730.00 worth of medical equipment for Edmonton’s Stollery Children’s Hospital. Stream-Flo is also a regular supporter of the UMC Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center in Lubbock, Texas, raising $66,000 since 2013 through golf tournaments and donations.
